This is a snapshot of the ALIRTS LHF_ETL_GEOSPATIAL (20121026) facility table that was created into a feature class. The snapshot of licensed healthcare facilities in California sometimes isn’t filled in entirely (lacking latitude and longitude for new facilities). The data was cleaned and purified for our process, removing duplicates, spaces before attribute entries (such as name, city, and zip). Previously researched data such as alias names or latitude and longitude is inserted into the file. For facilities with missing latitude and longitude, the WGS84DD geocoder is used to geocode the addresses given. If the geocoder can’t find an address, the address will be located and selected from the map by hand, known as pickpointing. New facilities also need alias names, these are based on their facility name, but truncated and scrutinized to remove unneeded parts (Inc., corporation, etc.). Geographic attributes based on spatial location are added to the facilities (county, census tract, mssa, etc.) using the Geographic Attribute tool. Finally the LHF Event Reprojection to NAD83 model is run to create the current feature class. Metadata is updated as a follow-up procedure.

Hospital services providing immediate initial evaluation and treatment of acutely ill or injured patients on a 24-hour basis. See attached Data Dictionary for additional information.
Licensed EMS levels are: 1. Standby: Provision of emergency medical care in a specifically designated area of the hospital that is equipped and maintained at all times to receive patients with urgent medical problems, and is capable of providing physician service within a reasonable time. 2. Basic: Provision of emergency medical care in a specifically designated area of the hospital that is staffed and equipped at all times to provide prompt care for any patient presenting urgent medical problems. 3. Comprehensive: Provision of diagnostic and therapeutic services for unforeseen physical and mental disorders that, if not properly treated, would lead to marked suffering, disability, or death. The scope of services is comprehensive with in-house capability for managing all medical situations on a definitive and continuing basis. 4. Trauma: Emergency rooms which are staffed and equipped at the highest level to treat any and all severe trauma cases. A local Emergency Medical Services Agency determines the level of designation. 5. Blank or Not Applicable means that the hospital or healthcare facility does not have emergency services

To link the OSHPD IDs with those from other Departments, like CDPH, please reference the "Licensed Facility Cross-Walk" Open Data table at https://data.chhs.ca.gov/dataset/licensed-facility-crosswalk
Key fields in the dataset are LICENSE_TYPE_DESC so that major types of facilities can be filtered (Clinic, Hospice, Hospital, Long Term Care Facility).
The LICENSE_CATEGORY_DESC field is particularly important for further definition of a facility, such as type of hospital (e.g. General Acute Care Hospital, Psychiatric Health Facility, Chemical Dep. Recovery Hospital or Acute Psychiatric Hospital).
The ER_SERVICE_LEVEL_DESC field is also a key field for hospitals (Emergency-Basic, Emergency - Comprehensive, None, Not Applicable).
