Description: The Assessor Book dataset contains polygons representing the geographic limits of each Assessor Parcel Map book. Each map book may contain multiple pages which are not shown in this dataset. The Assessor's Office maintains parcel maps in hard (paper) copies. The Assessor Book Number can be used to identify the location of a parcel.Assessor Parcel Numbers (APNs) contain 10 digits which are comprised of the Assessor Book Number (first 3 digits), Assessor Page (second 3 digits) and Parcel Number (last 4 digits). Thus, the first 3 digits of an APN can be used to identify the correct Assessor Book for a parcel and, thus, the general location of the property. NOTE that this does not apply to parcels with APNs starting with "7" (posessory interest parcels and mobile homes). The key field in the Assessor Book dataset is BOOK which is the Assessor Book Number. The ASR_Book layer is updated on an "as needed" basis. There are changes that require pages to move from one book to another, or for a new page to be created. The Assessor book has been created for tax purposes and does not represent a legal document for parcels.
