Layers: Description: This polygon dataset shows the extent of dam inundation areas for extremely high, high and significant hazard dams and their critical appurtenant structures located in San Diego County. These are inundation boundaries of the DSOD approved maps only. The dataset does not include low hazard dams. Inundation maps are based on a hypothetical failure of a dam or critical appurtenant structure and the extent of the inundation areas is approximate. The dataset excludes a number of high risk dams for which dam inundation areas were not available. ONLY DAMS WHERE GIS BOUNDARIES ARE AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD FROM THE DSOD DATASET ARE INCLUDED.Some dam inundation areas were included for dams located in Riverside County as requested by County of San Diego Office of Emergency Services. The DSOD dam inundation dataset was downloaded from https://fmds.water.ca.gov/webgis/?appid=dam_prototype_v2 and dam inundation areas located in San Diego County were extracted. Additional data fields were added by SanGIS (NationalDamID, DamDSOD_ID, DamNameCarto and DownloadDate).Under new legislation dam owners are required to submit updated dam plans to the State Division of Safety of Dams and these will need to be updated on a 10 year basis. The DSOD webmap includes dams in San Diego County where dam iundation maps were not available in GIS format, and these are not included in this dataset. As required by California Water Code section 6161, the Department of Water Resources (DWR), Division of Safety of Dams (DSOD) reviews and approves inundation maps prepared by licensed civil engineers and submitted by dam owners for extremely high, high, and significant hazard dams and their critical appurtenant structures. Inundation maps are not required by the California Water Code for the low hazard dams. Inundation maps are based on a hypothetical failure of a dam or critical appurtenant structure and the information depicted on the maps is approximate. Areas to be evacuated in the event of an actual failure of a dam or critical appurtenant structure are determined by emergency managers. The inundation boundary typically includes flooding depths greater than one foot, and some information on the maps may be redacted for security purposes. Minor changes to submitted geospatial files may have been made for the purpose of posting on the DSOD website. Please note that inundation maps for the dams owned by Federal government are not available.Inundation maps approved by DSOD are used to develop emergency action plans, and the maps are intended to provide general information for emergency planning and response. DWR assumes no legal responsibility resulting from the use of this information. Actual evacuation zones and timing will be determined by local emergency managers who are responsible for specific evacuation procedures in an emergency event.Inundation maps will continue to be posted as they have been reviewed and approved by DSOD. Water Code section 6161(e) requires that inundation maps be updated every ten years or sooner. Updated inundation maps will replace outdated maps as they are approved by DSOD.The State of California and the Department of Water Resources' Division Safety of Dams (DSOD) are strongly committed to providing accessible information to all persons. If website information is not accessible to you, due to a disability, please contact DSOD in writing or by telephone and we will work with you to make that information available. Direct your request to: Email: mapregs@water.ca.gov or Phone: (916) 565-7800.If you have any question please contact mapregs@water.ca.gov.
