Layers: Description: This Watershed dataset comprises Ten-Digit Hydrologic Units for the San Diego Area (WBD_HU10). HU 10's have a 10-digit Hydrologic Unit Code and represent the 5th level of division of the WBD.SanGIS extracted HU10 units from the State dataset that are included within HU8 units that intersect the County of San Diego. HU10 Watersheds in San Diego vicinity extracted from NHD data downloaded in FGDB format for HU-4 (SubRegion) for NHD_H_1810_HU4 and NHD_H1807_HU4 from https://apps.nationalmap.gov/downloader/ Features covering the extent of HU10 units in the vicinity of San Diego were selected and merged into a composite watershed dataset for San Diego County and were then projected to NAD 83 State Plane.Watershed boundaries define the aerial extent of surface water drainage to a point. The intent of defining hydrologic units (HU) for the Watershed Boundary Dataset is to establish a base-line drainage boundary framework, accounting for all land and surface areas. A hydrologic unit is a drainage area delineated to nest in a multi-level, hierarchical drainage system. Its boundaries are defined by hydrographic and topographic criteria that delineate an area of land upstream from a specific point on a river, stream or similar surface waters. A hydrologic unit can accept surface water directly from upstream drainage areas, and indirectly from associated surface areas such as remnant, non-contributing, and diversions to form a drainage area with single or multiple outlet points. Hydrologic units are only synonymous with classic watersheds when their boundaries include all the source area contributing surface water to a single defined outlet point.WBDHU10: A comprehensive aggregated collection of hydrologic unit data consistent with the national criteria for delineation and resolution. The WBD defines the perimeters of drainage areas (hydrologic units), formed by the terrain and other landscape characteristics, at a 1:24,000 scale in the United States, except for Alaska at 1:63,360 scale and 1:25,000 scale in the Caribbean, and it consists of digital geographic data that include six levels of detailed nested hydrologic unit boundaries. WBDHU10 represents the 10-digit hydrologic unit boundaries (previously referred to as Watersheds). Only the attribution is editable at the 10-digit hydrologic unit by the WBD In-State Steward. Within the United States, approximately 18,075 10-digit hydrologic units (Watersheds) are in the WBD.
